Moist chocolate banana bread; this is the best chocolate banana bread recipe I’ve found, and tastes fantastic with peanut butter!
I have this friend who is an avid cyclist. And by “avid,” I mean “crazy.” This woman regularly goes on marathon bike rides. She is always telling us about her latest and greatest 50 mile ride up some mountain or another.
I don’t know how one rear end can take that much time on a bicycle seat.
I complain about piano benches, but they’re nothing compared to bicycles.
Some time ago, she was gushing about the amazing snack they had after their 30 mile ride up the canyon. It seems someone had made chocolate banana bread and slathered it with peanut butter and honey.
The thought of it almost made me want to ride a bike up the canyon, just to get a slice.
Almost.
I recently found myself saddled with ripe bananas, when the project I had intended to use them for fell through. The memory of this chocolate banana bread discussion came flooding back to me.
And if I’m being completely honest, the thought of how this bread would look on this cutting board is the real reason I ended up making it.
I know I’m being biased, I know I am… but The Lizard (our oldest son) made this board in his wood shop class, and when he brought it home, I gushed and gushed about it. Maybe you saw where I immediately posted a photo of it on Instagram? That’s the kind of mom I am. The Lizard said, “You haven’t even had it 2 minutes!!” Then he took immense pride in the number of likes and comments that photo got on Instagram and Facebook. (Oh yes, I copied the photo to Facebook. Did I mention how excited I was?)
I had intended to be the best mom in the entire world, and send peanut butter on chocolate banana bread sandwiches in sack lunches for the kids. Buuuuuuutt… it was Sunday afternoon and that bread just kept calling to me. And calling. And calling.
My resolve lasted approximately 45 seconds before I sliced into this baby and smeared it with peanut butter. The entire loaf was gone within minutes.
Now that I have experienced this particular snack, my butt is going to need that 30 mile bike ride up the canyon. Was that part of your master plan, Lish? Because if it was… brilliant. Just brilliant.

This looks so yummy, we both love banana bread but add the chocolate and it makes it twice as good. Thanks for sharing.
LOL! I know, bikes are the worst. I did one spin class. ONE. Then I couldn’t walk right for a week and I was done. 🙂
I adore that cutting hoard! Your son did an awesome job 😉 And this banana bread wouldn’t stand a chance in my house! I’d have to fight off the kids, and eat it all myself!! 🙂
making this right now, hope turns out as good as it smells and very easy to make too 🙂
OH MY GOODNESS!! Just what my behind needs! (Not true). It looks SOOOO good! I haven’t tried it yet, but will ,soon! I have always liked a peanut butter & banana sandwich. I’ve always liked peanut butter cups. The thought of all of that lusciousness wrapped up into one – oh my! I think I might have to give my Dr. your blog address, cuz I am no longer in control! I have to go now. There’s a grocery list that needs to be made 😉
This recipe calls for cocoa powder. Does it need to be sweetened or unsweetened? I have unsweetened in my pantry and wanted to ask before I attempted to ruin it! Can’t wait to try it!
Unsweetened. 😉
I tried thid recipe today, and it was the best chocolate cake/bread I have ever baked in my whole live: crunchy on the outside, fluffy and moist on the inside, I just won´t add salt next time, or add chocolate chips to it, because it turned out a bit tasteless on the sweet side. However, a good scoop of nutella smeared on top of it as it came right out of oven was just perfect!!!
I’m so glad you liked it! This is so awesome with a little smear of Nutella or peanut butter.
I am making this now,I hope it turns out. I will let you know how good it is.
The time and temp didn’t cook my bread all the way. Stuck a knife in and it came out covered in batter. I even double checked to make sure I did everything correctly. I used a glass pan. Does that make a difference! I just bumped up the temp since it’s been in for 1 hr 5 min already.
