How to make a smoothie; This copycat orange julius recipe is quick, easy, and refreshing! How to make an orange smoothie.
When we were first married, let’s just say we were fans of a certain refreshing frothy orange flavored beverage sold at a certain fast food chain with the same name.
Only we were too poor to purchase this fun treat as often as we would like.
And so, we frequently opted for the homemade variety.
To avoid having to look the recipe for the 500th time this month, I made up a rhyme to help Robb and me both remember. Want to hear it?
A cup, A cup, a half a cup,
A half a can, a capful.
Those were the days. It has literally been years since I made one of these delightful homemade treats. Years. I blame my blender for dying. And my subsequent smoothie maker also for dying. I decided the next blender in my home would be a keeper. And hence, my home is now blessed with a Blendtec blender with the WildSide Jar, and let me tell you… it is possibly my favorite thing I own. It’s awesome. How awesome?
If someone held a gun to my head and made me choose between giving him my blender or giving him one of my children, I might have a hard time choosing.
Okay, no I wouldn’t. I’d hand over the blender. But the kid would hear about it for the rest of his life.
Luckily, that’s not the way it’s going to go down. The way it’s going to go down is the kids are going to come home from school, and in 30 seconds I will whip up enough of this frothy beverage for the four of us in the awesome blender, and then the kids will be so happy and sing my praises and brag to their friends about how amazing their mom is.
It could happen to you, too. You don’t even need an amazing blender. Any old blender will do.
Just remember your rhyme!
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ½ can frozen orange juice concentrate (about 6 oz.)
- capful of vanilla (1 tsp.)
- Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

I was quite a fan myself of that certain concoction along with their chili dogs. Thanks for the recipe and the flashback.
Fun smoothie! I’ve not heard of the Blentec blender before, so of course I Googled it. Really impressive! We’re not big blender users, so our cheap ones last years. But next time we need one, I’ll have to take a look. Fun post – thanks.
You’ve never heard of Blendtec? How is this possible?! It’s kind of a life-changing product.
We love making stuff like tis, so much better homemade!
And P.S. I love my Blendtec…it’s the best.
I’ve never used powdered sugar in mine! I love it! Thanks for sharing on Foodie Friday. I’m featuring you this week.
