Cookie Sticks

chocolate chip cookieThe grocery store is my nemesis.  We are locked in an eternal battle for power, and let me tell you, the grocery store is winning.

Sometimes it wins by selling me things I don’t really want.  Like candy and potato chips.  Frequently it wins by making me forget what I went in for, and thus making me return for a second trip on the same day.  This is one of the grocery stores favorite tricks, actually.  This week it used a different tactic, just to mix it up and keep me on my toes.  This week, it made me purchase the entirely wrong product altogether.

Yep.  Went in for all purpose flour, came out with bread flour.

Don’t blame me.  The store made me do it.

Not that it’s that big a deal… you can still make these cute cookie sticks with bread flour, if you want. Or not.  Whatev.

I remember seeing these cookie sticks on Cookies and Cups a while ago.  My life was forever changed.  Simply changing the shape of your cookie is life altering.

Well, it’s life altering for the milk-dunking people.  I think you know how I feel about milk. {*cough*cough*gag*}

cookies for dunking

Shelly used m&m’s in her cookie sticks, but I went with some classic chocolate chip.  I used one 4-oz bar of dark chocolate, chopped into little chunks, and half a bag of white chocolate chips.  I also used my daughters adorable mini rolling pin to get my big blob of cookie dough nice and even.

Yes, I know it’s a toy.  Parents get to have fun, too.

Oh, and speaking of parenting fun, these cookies provided me with a double fun and totally unintentional parenting win.  The other day, I banned my 14 year old from milk.  BANNED.  Because Every. Single. Time. he uses the milk, he leaves it out.  With the lid off.

cookies and milk

I’ve tried begging, reminding, yelling, bribing, embarrassing, jumping up and down, even talking about sex, to no avail.  My teenager is still completely incapable of putting the milk back in the fridge.  So he’s banned.  For how long?  Until I say so, that’s how long.

When I presented these cookie sticks that were literally made for dunking in milk, the 14yo “Fruitarian” turned into a whining, begging, and quivering pile of goo in front of my eyes.  Oh, sweet torture!  Parenting WIN.

Because, so help me, I am not going back to the grocery store for more milk.

Are you kidding me? This has been that easy all this time? Why didn’t we think of this before? Cookie sticks…genius! Thanks so much for the idea and the recipe sounds yummy. Will be making for my kids snack/dessert today. Ok so what’s left over after I (taste) test the ease of dunking process. Wink-wink.

I don’t have too much of a problem with my grocery store as long as I go to my regular one – I know exactly where everything is, so I can shop on auto pilot. Go to a different store? I’m lost! And I start seeing all sorts of stuff that I really don’t want, but calls out to me to be bought. Anyway, the idea of cookies sticks is new to me. Love it! Good post – thanks.

The grocery store tells me to buy all the candy and bad store bought cakes from my youth. I can’t stand the battle. Thanks for sharing your recipe on foodie friday. Hope to see you back next week.

Jen, you’re such a great writer! I love these cookie sticks. Heck, I might not, but you made me fall in love with them. I love that you threatened your son with talking about sex. Thanks for sharing these tasty treats at Foodtastic Friday. I hope you come back again!

Okay, this is brilliant! My kids love to dunk chocolate chip cookies in milk, but are constantly whining about how the cookies don’t fit into their cups. What a perfect solution!
