My kids’ ongoing ban from all things involving screens is starting to annoy their friends.
Rainy days are the worst. Finding something to do when you can’t go outside and you can’t watch tv or play video games is pretty tough some days. Today, they played board games, sat around chatting, and conducted a nerf war. Pretty sure all of that took less than an hour.
And, being teenage boys that are constantly hungry, the kids decided to kill two birds with one stone. They would spend time in the kitchen baking treats. And then they would eat them. I eagerly okayed the idea, with the stipulation that I get to photograph, in between the baking and eating steps.
I threw them a bag of strawberry flavored marshmallows and a box of Rice Krispies, and put them to work.
Having older kids is sooo great.
The whole idea of krispie treats made with strawberry marshmallows is not all that exciting to me, but for some reason, the idea of strawberry flavored marshmallows is. I can’t explain it.
I think I just love the idea of variety. Marshmallows in 15 different flavors is awesome.
It probably explains my love of office supplies. {“Which of these 12 cute patterns of file folders should I purchase?”}
The kids kept checking in with me, to be sure they were getting all the steps right. Each step ended with, “then can we eat them?”
Me: Press them into the pan.
Kids: Then can we eat them?
Me: No. Melt some white chocolate.
Kids: Then can we eat them?
Me: No. Spread it on carefully, then let it chill for about 10 minutes.
Kids: Then can we eat them?
Me: No. Then I will photograph them.
{Pause}
Me: Then you can eat them.
Kids: YES!
Every treat you see pictured was gone within 3 minutes. I kid you not.
