Hot Spiced Cider

Spiced hot cider recipes; this spiced hot cider recipe is quick and easy to make and delicious!

spiced-hot-cider-recipesWe don’t drink many hot beverages around here, even in the winter.  We aren’t coffee drinkers, and Robb usually complains about hot chocolate being too sweet, which just leaves us with the occasional cup of herbal tea, and this hot spiced cider.

Hot spiced cider has long been a family favorite.  We usually buy the packaged mixes, for convenience, but every once in a while, I like to make the real stuff.  The kind made from actual apples.

I usually only make it when Robb is sick.  Maybe one of these days I’ll convince him to make it when I’m sick!

It just feel so good to have something clear, warm, sweet, and a little spicy when you have a sore throat or a cough.  It’s not a cure, by any means, but it brings some welcome relief, let me tell you.

I like to throw the spices right into the pot with the cider.  Some people like to complain about that.

“There’s a lot of… stuff in the bottom of my cup.”
“That’s the stuff that makes it taste good.”

If you’re not a big fan of “stuff” in the bottom of your cup, you can totally wrap up all your spices in a piece of cheesecloth, tie it up in a neat little package with a piece of string, and drop the whole thing in the pot.  When you’re ready to serve your cider, just retrieve the packet of spices and toss it.

Voila!  A hot drink the whole family can enjoy!

I never really cared for cider and then I recently made some spiced cider (granted mine was spiked) but. . .yes, now I’m a hot cider fan.
