Samoas Rice Krispie Treats

Rice krispie squares recipe;  These krispie treats are filled with caramel and coconut, and taste like a Samoas girl scout cookie.

For example: Robb and I have been watching Breaking Bad on Netflix.  Because it is an awesomely well-written show.  And even though I am starting to kind of hate Walt, it’s not going to keep me from seeing how his story ends.

There are 5 seasons of this show.  When we watched the final season, there were only 6 episodes on Netflix.  Robb assumed this was because there were only 6 episodes period.  But I thought, there have to be more.

I thought it even more after we watched that 6th episode.  I was so annoyed that it didn’t wrap anything up, and ended with a cliffhanger.  “This cannot be the end!”  I screamed.  “It doesn’t make any sense!”  Robb just shrugged his shoulders at me.

But… literally the following morning the rest of that season showed up on Netflix.  Talk about kismet.

Now I’ll be staying up late every night to finish up the season.  I’m kind of obsessive that way.

Good thing I have these Samoas treats to keep me company.  Who am I kidding?  These didn’t last 6 hours in my house. Continue reading “Samoas Rice Krispie Treats” »

Easter Snack Nests

Easter snacks; This edible nest is made with pretzels, cereal, and marshmallows, and is filled with Easter candy.  Recipe and instructions included for these easy Easter snack edible nests.

Source:  Adapted from Buns in My Oven

Yield:  about 20 large nests

For some reason, coming up with a good Easter recipe to make has been hurting my brain.  Nothing that I thought about really seemed to be a very good idea.  I bought these Reese’s Pieces Eggs, which are rather fantastic and hard to resist, and I knew I wanted to use them somehow.  Green colored coconut seemed like a good idea, but coconut with peanut butter eggs did not.  *sigh*  Back to the drawing board.

Thin Mint Krispie Treats

A recipe for a chocolate mint Rice Krispie Treat made with Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies.

Source: Adapted from the great idea I found at Cookies & Cups.

Yield: One 9×13 pan full.  Cut them however you like.

I have refrained from buying Girl Scout cookies for about three years now.  I think that is some major determination.  Okay, okay, it’s mostly that the Girl Scouts don’t knock on my door anymore, nor is anyone pestering my husband at work about it.  The other day, I stopped at the grocery store, and was hit in my weak spots on both sides of the store.  On one side of the store, cute little Girl Scouts with their dangerously addictive cookies; and on the other side, cute Special Olympics kids selling root beer floats as a fundraiser.  After going through the checkout, I walked to one end of the store and bought 2 boxes of Thin Mints and 1 box of Samoas, then I walked to the other end and bought 3 root beer floats for my kids.  It was a good day.

Peanut Butter Krispie Cookies

A recipe for a crispy peanut butter cookie with crisped rice cereal.

Source: I found this recipe at Picky Palate, but changed it slightly to suit my purposes.  And my pantry.

Yield:  About 2-3 dozen

I chose and discarded about 10 recipes last night.  I guess some days you just can’t find what you are looking for.  The thing I was looking for was a cookie that did not involve a trip to the grocery store.  I was ultimately unsuccessful in that.  I also wanted a cookie that would add to a fun Friday night, and I failed there as well.  On the bright side, the cookie I eventually came up with was really fun and delicious!
